What did Jesus mean when he said, Except(unless) a man be born again(born of God or born from above), he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Did Jesus imply that we were spiritually dead? So we have to be born again because we are spiritually dead? Now were in the Bible does it say that we are spiritually dead? Not even when Adam ate of the tree of good and evil, does it say that he died spiritually. He began to die physically. Before he ate he was immortal, and so was the whole creation. The literal translation says this; but of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil you may not eat, for in the day that you eat of it, dying you shall die. (Gen 2:17 LITV) So Adam began to die physically and not spiritually. If your spirit is dead, then you do not have a spirit, because it is dead. Then how could God still speak to Adam and Eve if they were spiritually dead? God is spirit, and those who worship him must do it in spirit and truth (John 4:24). In Ecclesiastes 12:7 the preacher writes this; Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. God gave you a spirit, so your spirit cannot die. It is the part of you that is immortal, because it came from God.
If Jesus did not speak about spiritual death. Then what did he speak about?
When Jesus spoke to Nicodemus he said a lot of interesting things like what is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the spirit is spirit. Now Nicodemus did not under stand this. Jesus replied and said that you are a master of Israel and you do not know these things. If I had told you about earthly things and you understand not, what then if I told you about heavenly things. The things Jesus was talking about to Nicodemus was earthly things, so he should have known it.
It was never a question, “are you born again”or “born from above”, but a statement that Jesus had made. Jesus answered the statement the Nicodemus made; “no man can do these miracles…” Jesus told him that if you were not born of God you cannot do these miracles, and you cannot see the kingdom of God, because flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God
Jesus was actually saying; Nicodemus you have to be born from above to see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus you were not born from heaven, you were born of the flesh, you do not receive me, but Nicodemus, I was born from above, I was born from the spirit and every one that receives me were born of the seed of Isaac of promise. No one can do these things except he is born from above. Nicodemus you have to be born from above to do these miracles, you have to be born of the Spirit. But your are not born of the Spirit that is why you cannot do these things. But Nicodemus what you can do is to believe in me and you will have eternal life.
Jesus did not say that Nicodemus must be born from above, Jesus said that Nicodemus was not born from above.
“How can I enter a second time in my mothers womb?”
Nicodemus, you don’t understand. What is born of the Spirit is Spirit (Jesus) and what is born of the flesh is flesh(you).
Now Nicodemus if you believe in me and what I have come to do. To die on the cross, to be crucified, to pay for the sins of the world, and after that has happened I would be raised from the dead. Then the works that I did you would be able to do also. I came to reconcile the world to God. When I die, all will die (2 Cor 5:14&15). And when I am raised up you will be raised up (if you believe) so that you would be a new creation, in Me (in Christ) who was born of the Spirit, so that you will also be part of me whom is born of the Spirit.
It is not a question of being born from above or born again but, it is did you receive Jesus, did you believe in Jesus. Because if you believe in Him, you have partaken in His death and resurrection and therefor you are a new creation in him. Then you are righteous, justified and holy to God in Jesus. Jesus was the only one who was born from above. You are now in Him because you believe. Now if you believe you are in Him, then you are a partaker of the seed and is in the promise, a new creation. And because you are now in Christ, you are partaking of His nature, so you can do these miracles and enter in the kingdom of God. Therefor I cannot go out and preach, “be born again” or “be born for above”. It is not a question of being born from above or you being born from above, but that you are partaking in what Jesus has done, not your own works but what Jesus has done. So you cannot go out and brag, “I am born from above”. No, it is something you partake of in Christ, being a new creation.
Am I born from above?
NO!
What then?
Am I a new creation in Christ?
Yes!
You are IN Christ, and He was the only one born from above and you are IN Him a new creation. Did I take away your “born again” experience away?
No, but it was not a “born again experience” but you being made a new creation in Christ.
Because you are now in Christ, you can do these miracles. I am not born from above but I am in Christ who was born from above.
